Why has Gamefan.net re-launched?

Gamefan.net has grown to become one of the most popular games websites in Europe since it's launch in 1999, and is now read by tens of thousands of people every day from across the continent. To deliver the service you deserve, we've updated every element of the site in one way or another, from the front-end design, the back-end database and the hardware and network infrastructure. The result is a vastly improved, streamlined user experience.

What's different about the new site compared to the old one?

  1. A full re-design
The new site's design allows us to finally include full sections for new hardware, such as Nintendo DS and PSP, and gives us room to expand when new formats are announced. You'll notice that that the size of the advertisements has changed as well; a necessity to keep us in line with current trends in the online advertising market. There are now less ads on each page and we're steering away from the more intrusive forms of advertising, which will make page-loads faster. Obviously, this is better for you.
  2. New hardware
We've a significant investment in new server hardware to ensure the site runs faster, is more reliable and can handle the increasing demands made upon it.
  3. Increased reader interaction
You can now submit reviews for any game for publication on the site. See below for instructions on how to do this.
  4. Members-only discussion
Sorry, but if you want to contribute to the Gamefan discussion forums, we now ask you to register. Don't worry though, it's still free and very easy to do.

What's different about the new site compared to the old one?

    1. A new database
The new Gamefan.net game database brings together the huge amount of information and articles created since the site launched and makes them fully available to you through a powerful search engine. At the time of writing there are well over 1,000 reviews and many, many thousands of news stories, previews, features, first impressions and so on. Now you can get to all that information easily. Each product now has its own page on the website from which it's possible to reach all the

Will I still keep my username and password?

Yes. The details you used to log in to the old site will remain unchanged.

Can I change my username or password?

Not at the moment, but we will change this in the future.

Will Gamefan Network ever give my details to a third party?

No.

Why has my comment or forum post been edited or deleted?

We're lucky here at Gamefan in that our community is fairly self-policing and most our members are sensible people. Unfortunately, our moderators will occasionally have to remove posts that contravene our comment policy or are deliberately inflammatory. As long as you don't insult people, keep the discussion relevant and don't generally act like an idiot, you won't have to worry about being moderated.

What's Gamefan.net's relationship with GamesIndustry.biz?

GamesIndustry.biz is Gamefan.net's sister site, a trade publication which focuses on the industries of video games development and publishing. Both sites are privately owned by Gamefan Network Ltd. Content, such as news stories, is sometimes published on both sites, as it is applicable to both audiences.

I keep seeing your content elsewhere. Why?

All Gamefan.net content is the copyrighted property of Gamefan Network Ltd, but we do occasionally license it out to various other publications. If you see our content on other websites without obvious permission, please help us out and let Business Development Manager Patrick Garratt know about it by mailing him at patrick@eurogamer.net. We'll unleash the hounds.

Are there any employment opportunities at Gamefan Network?

If and when any jobs become available at Gamefan Network, the chances are we'll advertise them on the GamesIndustry.biz recruitment section. If we don't, then it's safe to assume we don't have any openings right now. Please note that we do not currently accept students on work placements.
